Georgia NMC Guidelines changed drastically in 2026. Three previously popular universities lost recognition. The FMGE is dead. NExT is the new king. And if your consultant isn’t talking about clinical exposure from day one, they’re lying.

Let’s cut the crap.

We at Eduwisor have a Mumbai office near Andheri station. Every Tuesday, a father walks in with a glossy brochure from some flashy consultant. The brochure promises “USA-style education” in Georgia. Low fees. High FMGE passing rates. No tension, sir.

Then we show them the fine print.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) dropped a bomb in early 2026. If you’re planning for MBBS in Georgia, you need to read this. Not tomorrow. Not after your NEET result. Right now.

What Are the Updated NMC Guidelines for MBBS in Georgia (2026)?

As of April 2026, the NMC mandates that every Georgian medical college must complete a mandatory “Physical Verification” every two years. 12 universities were inspected. 3 failed. Only 8 remain on the “Approved” list for new admissions. You cannot practice in India if you graduate from a non-listed university.

Here’s the raw data from our internal Eduwisor compliance team (we have three lawyers who do nothing but track NMC notices).

The NMC used to operate on trust. Send a list. Get approval. Done.

Not anymore.

The new guidelines require:

Infrastructure audit: Does the university have a 500+ bed hospital attached? Not “nearby.” Attached.

Faculty ratio: Minimum 1:15 for clinical subjects.

NExT integration: The curriculum must match the new Indian licensing exam pattern. No more rote learning. They need to teach you how to treat a patient in rural Rajasthan, not just memorize Krebs cycle.

And here’s the kicker. The NMC now has the power to retrospectively de-recognize a university. Meaning? If you join a college today that passes inspection, but they mess up in 2028, your degree becomes a very expensive wall decoration.

That’s why we only work with the verified eight.

Which Georgian Medical Universities Are Approved by NMC in 2026?

Only eight universities currently hold active NMC approval for the 2026 intake: CUE, European University, New Vision, David Tvildiani Medical University, Caucasus University, Georgian National University (SEU), East West University, and Ken Walker University. Any other name is a gamble.

Let me be brutally honest.

I’ve personally visited Tbilisi four times in the last 18 months. I ate Khachapuri in a tiny café near Liberty Square. I sat in a lecture hall at European University and watched 3rd-year Indian students practice sutures on synthetic skin. Good stuff.

But I also walked through a college I won’t name (they threatened to sue us last year). The “hospital” was a clinic. The hostel had no hot water in February. And the Indian mess? They served the same watery dal for six days straight.

That college is now blacklisted by the NMC.

Here is the Eduwisor Verified List for MBBS in Georgia (NMC compliant for 2026 intake):

University Name

Location

NMC Status

Approx. The NMC has introduced NExT (National Exit Test) in two stages. Stage 1 after 4th year. Stage 2 after internship. You cannot skip it. You cannot bribe it.

Here is the structural change that 90% of consultants aren’t telling you.

Under the old FMGE system, you studied 5.5 years in Georgia. Came back. Gave a 300-question MCQ test. Passed at 50%. Done.

Under NExT:

NExT Step 1: Written exam (similar to FMGE but higher difficulty). Tests clinical reasoning, not memory.

NExT Step 2: Practical exam. A real actor pretending to be a patient. You have to take history, examine, and diagnose. In English. In front of three examiners.

If you fail NExT Step 2 twice, you cannot practice medicine in India. Ever.

So why Georgia still?

Because Eduwisor has integrated NExT coaching into our partnered universities. While other Indian students in Ukraine or Philippines are cramming old FMGE question banks, our students at CUE and New Vision are doing weekly NExT mock OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations).

We didn’t just sign an MOU. We flew our NExT faculty from Delhi to Tbilisi. They trained 35 local Georgian professors on the Indian exam pattern. That’s the Eduwisor difference. Not a single other consultant has done that.

What is the Eligibility Certificate (EC) and Why Is It Mandatory?

The Eligibility Certificate is an NMC-issued document proving you are allowed to study medicine abroad. Without it, you cannot take NExT. You must apply online via the NMC portal before joining any Georgian university. Processing takes 60-90 days.

We’ve seen students land in Tbilisi, take selfies at the Kartlis Deda statue, and then realize they never applied for the EC.

Disaster.

The NMC now rejects applications if submitted after admission. You have to pay the fees, fly back, and wait for the next intake. We at Eduwisor make the EC application the first step. Before flight booking. Before hostel deposit. Even before you pay the university.

That’s what “Zero-Hidden-Fee” means. They don’t show you the winter.

Tbilisi in January is dark at 4:30 PM. It snows. The wind cuts through your jacket. You will miss your mom’s rajma chawal. You will fight with your roommate over the bathroom geyser.

But here’s the thing Indian parents worry about most: Food.

At European University, the Indian mess manager is a Sardar ji from Amritsar. He makes aloo paratha every Tuesday. Paneer butter masala on Saturdays. No beef. No pork. The NMC allows a 12-month compulsory rotating internship in India only for students who have passed the licensing exam. You cannot do internship in India without clearing NExT first.

This is a massive change from 2022.

Earlier, you could come back, do internship, then give FMGE. Now? The NMC says: Prove you know medicine first. Then touch Indian patients.

We have a dedicated team at Eduwisor that helps you find internship spots in NMC-approved hospitals in your home state.
